Cheltenham is one of our favourite places to go and grab a bite to eat, it’s really local to us and not only that but it has so many gluten free restaurants to choose from you never get fed up of trying to find somewhere.
At the weekend we decided we would eat at The Cosy Club, somewhere we haven’t ventured before. When we arrived we were greeted by a waiter who seated us and gave me my own gluten free menu, always a bonus to have this than to ask the person serving you to deconstruct what you can and can’t have.
I was really surprised by the extent of the gluten free menu here, they pretty much had a bit of everything and I didn’t feel like I was restricted by what I could have. This ranged from breakfast items, mains, starters, sides and even tapas.
There were so many things I wanted off this menu I decided to have a couple of the tapas as my starters, squid with chorizo and roasted turmeric cauliflower. The cauliflower was particularly tasty, the first time I’ve tried it and definitely not the last.
The waiter was particularly attentive to us during our meal, making sure everything was okay and making specific notes on the order to make sure the kitchen knew about my gluten and dairy intolerance, I could not fault the service at all and this is something that is greatly appreciated when dining out with a food intolerance.
Each meal for me came out with a red flag to denote that it was for myself. I really like seeing this from a restaurant as it fills you with comfort that you’ve got the correct plate and it hasn’t been mixed up. Of course for my main I had a burger, The Scarlet Pimpernel which had chorizo on top, a bacon and chipotle chilli jam and an excellent gluten free bun. This was also served with gluten free chips and house slaw.
I made room for dessert and had the vegan chocolate and orange torte which was amazing.
I’ve already eyed up what I’ll be having next… Shakshuka I’m coming for you!
