This last week we found ourselves back in our favourite holiday destination of Torquay in South Devon. We absolutely love it here, not only is it a lovely seaside resort with plenty to do but the restaurants on offer here for people who need to eat gluten free is incredible!
We stopped off at our old favourite Prezzo on Vaughan Parade just opposite the Golden Palm arcades, if you have kids you’ll know this is an ideal spot to just nip across the road and grab something to eat. I particularly love this building with its high ceilings and grand interior it really gives it a great ambience for dining.
We were greeted by the manager who sat us down and asked which one of us wanted the gluten free menu, I love that every time I walk into one of these restaurants I always get asked this regardless of whether we’ve booked in advance or not. Drinks order was taken soon after and arrived quickly. The waitress was particularly good with my young son with her entertaining comments, another bonus for Prezzo, they are very family friendly and we were made to feel really welcome.
They have pizzas, risottos and even garlic bread for me to choose from but I’m a real stick in the mud for trying something new here because the Fusilli Arrabiata with chicken tastes so good I just can’t bring myself to not have it. One really good thing about this restaurant is that the gluten free pasta is fusilli, compared to the ‘normal’ pasta which is usually penne or otherwise, so you’re never in doubt if you’ve got the right bowl. The portion sizes are large so you’ll never go away hungry, and always definitely get your money’s worth.
The waiter came over to check if everything was okay for me and asked if he could get me anything else, the staff are always so great here you really can’t fault them. The restaurants are so busy by 6pm but the staff always maintain their best service.
We actually visited this restaurant twice during our weeks stay in Torquay, you just can’t keep us away! The second time round I asked if they would be able to slightly change one of their fusilli pasta dishes for me, to enable me to be able to consume it with a non dairy sauce. This was no trouble whatsoever and my dish of Fusilli Alla Rusticana arrived with a non dairy pomodoro sauce. The combination of chicken, pancetta and prosciutto was incredibly tasty, I’ll definitely be having this again.
No room for pudding on either occasion, maybe I should opt for the lighter pasta dishes next time!
Thanks Prezzo see you very soon
