Ego at Manor Farm – Worcester
Dining Out

Don’t you just love finding new places to eat, that ticks every single box? That’s exactly what Ego Mediterranean restaurant has done for me on a recent visit.

Set in a beautiful Manor House not far from Worcester town centre and a stone’s throw from a nature reserve, this restaurant seems to have it all. Gorgeous interior, modern and cosy, with an extensive gluten free menu.

We decided we would eat here on a Sunday so we could have the option of both the normal menu and Sunday roast menu.

Unlike many restaurants that serve gluten free, my menu size was pretty much exactly the same as the ‘normal’ menu. Choices ranged from ham hock terrine, moules marinieres, paella, pasta, and chargrilled kebabs but to name a few. I felt truly spoiled.

Skipped straight to the main course as I was secretly saving room for dessert. I had chosen the lemon chicken milanese which was served with a lemon caper dressed salad and skin on fries.

The waitresses were amazing at answering all of my questions concerning gluten and assured me that the fries are cooked in their own fryer so absolutely no risk of cross contamination. Their knowledge was impeccable along with the kitchen staff. Before choosing they also told me that if I wished to I could have any of the Sunday roasts as the roast potatoes can be made gluten free, I would just have to miss out the Yorkshire pudding. My partner opted for this as his main course, we had seen a few coming out and they looked amazing! I must say the attention to detail with regards to presentation was extremely impressive.

There’s a fantastic kids menu here too, different options for Juniors (over 8s) compared to your run of the mill chicken and chips and pasta offerings, they have patê, seabass, salmon fish cake and calamari amongst other things. My son chose the latter, along with a ‘make your own pizza’ for his main. Choosing 2 toppings, they bring them out along with the base, sauce and cheese for your child to make at the table while wearing a funky chefs hat, then whisk it away ready for it to be cooked. He really enjoyed doing this and I loved the interactive side it provided.

Usually in a restaurant gluten free desserts are hard to come by, especially when you are looking for one that is also lactose free. However I spotted something that made me save room… ‘Warm Frangipane and Raspberry Tart’, totally gluten free and vegan. I don’t know how I managed to contain my excitement all through the early part of the meal. When it arrived I devoured it in seconds, so moist, so full of flavour and didn’t taste a slight bit different to your regular frangipane tart. Just perfect.

The restaurant got busy really quickly and it’s clear to see why this is such a popular place to dine out, but all throughout the waiting staff were efficient and attentive and we honestly can’t wait to go back. This has definitely topped the list of gluten free places to eat out for me.

PS great cocktail menu too.
