I can never resist a visit to a Frankie and Benny’s when we are away, this time our trip took us to Cardiff. We hadn’t visited the city for a while but I always remembered how well endowed it is with restaurants, especially ones that now cater for gluten free.
We were off to watch a hockey match that evening at a local stadium so this bought us to the restaurant just off Dunleavy Drive.
We were greeted by Matthew who grabbed me a gluten free menu and sat us down at our booth. He explained how things have changed at Frankie and Benny’s in terms of how they handle allergy orders and proceeded to show me a screen which I had to read and agree to, then went onto the online menu and selected my allergies which bought up exactly what I could order within the restaurant. Perfect, makes it even easier! Thank god my favourite House Burger was on there. There are so many options for gluten free at Frankie & Benny’s; burgers, ribs, pizza, pasta, chicken, it’s a difficult decision most times but the burgers always win.
He really took the time to sit down with us at a peak time for the restaurant and help me go through the menu making sure I was okay with everything and offering me alternatives where he could, I honestly couldn’t of been happier with the service and level of care that he gave us while we were there.
As you probably already know, the chips aren’t gluten free here due to cross contamination but I was offered something other than a jacket potato so I went for corn on the cob. My house burger arrived and didn’t disappoint, I say this every time, but they are hands down the best burgers, so tasty. 6oz of Beef, signature burger sauce, fried onions and gherkins with a massive plus of a gluten free bun that holds itself together.. Even better because they are Coeliac accredited you feel safe to eat here knowing that they have separate preparation areas for the food.
I’d love to say I had room for dessert but sadly I didn’t, the sticky toffee pudding will have to wait until next time.
